Twice a year, when the sun and moon align closest to the earth, when the gravitational pull is strongest, the King Tides swell into town & then accelerate back downhill to San Pablo Bay.  Surf Is Up on the Petaluma River Saturday, February 10th, 2024!   Paddle boarding these huge tidal flows is like tubing down the Russian River except on a big surf board.  Watch as you glide effortlessly past buoys bent to the surface from the sheer force of tide.

Cover 7- miles in about two hours time and paddle into the sunset as we approach San Pablo Bay!  Enjoy sweeping views of the oak studded hills of Olampali and a ridgeline that extends to Mt. Tam.  If you would like to leave your car at the finish the shuttle will meet you at 2pm, by appointment at Black Point Boat Ramp. Otherwise, the event is just $5 for river access at Lakeville Landing.

If you are not bringing your own SUP or Kayak you may rent equipment from NVP in advance.

With climate change and rising sea levels, these King Tides will likely become the average high tide over the next few decades.  Join the flotilla, see the future and socialize at Ernie's Tin Bar after the paddle.

Paddle boards, single kayaks and tandem kayaks are welcomed. For the best experience, we recommend paddle boarding, as it provides better views of the surrounding landscape with more of the San Pablo Bay breeze at your back.

PARKING

Lakeville Landing is a dirt/gravel parking lot that may be muddy due to rain and has limited parking.  We advise leaving your car at Black Point.

For those parking at Lakeville, enter at the south entrance off Lakeville Highway.  Park immediately on the left or against the fence closer to the ramp.

IMPORANT:  DO NOT MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN WHEN DEPARTING LAKEVILLE LANDING.  When leaving Lakeville Landing, regardless of south or northbound destination, enter the highway with a RIGHT turn.  This is a dangerous entry/exit from the highway.   If you need to head northbound simply merge into the left turning lane once back on the highway, about one hundred yards or so, exit the highway, and do U-Turn on the side road.  Then head back northbound.

Or, you can leave your car at Black Point at 2pm and we will shuttle you and boards if you bring your own.  Must make a reservation!

LOGISTICS & SHUTTLE SERVICE
For one-way paddlers we advise leaving one car at Black Point prior to launch and carpooling. 15 min commute Lakeville Landing. Boards can be dropped off safely on dock prior to launch or we will shuttle them on our trailer from Black Point.  Must schedule shuttle in advance, 1 driver per car preferred and not more than 2.
